Hounslow is the most overflown borough in London. Richmond is in second place. But the big surprise is that Waltham Forest comes third. Indeed half of the top twelve boroughs are in East or South East London. In part, this is due to the impact being overflown by both Heathrow and City Airport aircraft. It is also indicative of the way aircraft noise has become a London-wide problem.

The Airports Commission Consultation ends on February 3rd. It is a technical document more aimed at responses from organisations rather than individuals but, if you wish to respond, this two-pager may help you: Consultation_Special_by_HACAN_Jan_2015
The Commission is asking for comments on whether it has assessed its three shortlisted schemes correctly.

Heathrow Airport and its side-kick Back Heathrow are making big claims about the support their is for a 3rd runway. But their polls and surveys leave much to be desired.

For the purpose of night flights, there are two “night” periods, as defined by the Government! Although “night” is officially from 11.00pm until 7am, there are only restrictions on the number of flights permitted during the “night quota” period, 11.30pm until 6am. How many flights are allowed at night?
On a typical night, no more than 16 flights are allowed between 11.30pm and 6am.

If it gives the go-ahead in principle, it will say it is up to BAA to come up with detailed plans. But any decision to give the go-ahead would meet with furious protests and may not be final as both the Conservatives and the Liberal Democrats say they would scrap Heathrow expansion.
