{"id":1008,"date":"2006-07-25T12:00:00","date_gmt":"2006-07-25T12:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsite.hacan.org.uk\/?p=1008"},"modified":"2019-05-13T18:31:16","modified_gmt":"2019-05-13T18:31:16","slug":"government-admits-defeat-on-key-night-flights-issue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hacan.org.uk\/?p=1008","title":{"rendered":"Government Admits Defeat on Key Night Flights Issue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>The Government has admitted defeat on its battle to do away with a movements limit on night flights at Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick. <!--more--> Aviation Minister Gillian Merron broke the news in a letter to Conservation Transport Spokesman Chris Grayling, dated 20th July.<\/p>\n<p>In the Civil Aviation Bill, expected to become law in the Autumn, the Government wanted to do away with a limit on the number of flights between 11.30pm and 6am at the countries three &#8220;designated&#8221; airports, Heathrow, Stansted and Gatwick.  This clause, strongly opposed by residents and local authorities, was twice defeated in the Lords.  Gillian Merron&#8217;s letter says the Government will not try to reinstate the clause when the Bill returns to the Commons for one last time in the Autumn.<\/p>\n<p>John Stewart, Chair HACAN ClearSkies, said, &#8220;This is victory.  Victory for residents, local councils, local MPs and, of course, the House of Lords.
