Green represent arrivals resulting from westerly winds (30% of the time), Red represent easterly (70% of the time).<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Find out the key things we are campaigning for:<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong> <a href=\"http:\/\/wp.me\/P5NPQ9-13m\">http:\/\/wp.me\/P5NPQ9-13m\u00a0<\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">If you want to find out more about us or are keen to help us email either:<\/span>\u00a0<\/strong><\/span><a href=\"mailto:info@hacan.org.uk\">info@hacan.org.uk<\/a><\/p>\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">Heathrow Consultations<\/span><\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Details are on the main HACAN Page but the Airspace Consultation is particularly important to people in SE London.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Consultation Venues: further east than ever before<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-4228\" src=\"http:\/\/hacan.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2018\/02\/Wheatsheaf-Community-Hall-1-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"184\" height=\"275\" \/><\/p>\n<p>In a recognition that people are impacted by aircraft noise much further from the airport than previously acknowledged.\u00a0 On Friday 16 Feb (12- 8pm) there will be an exhibition for the first time in <strong><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Vauxhall.\u00a0<\/span> <\/strong>The venue , Wheatsheaf Community Centre, Wheatsheaf Lone, off South Lambeth Road is easily accessed from Brixton, Clappham, Oval, Waterloo and Camberwell.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">HACAN, though, is in discussion with Heathrow to have two extra meetings: one further into SE London; It now accepts the noise from Heathrow can annoy people in SE London.<\/strong>\u00a0 Its Airspace Strategy, published in October 2017, recognised that people can get annoyed by aircraft noise when it averages out over a 16 hour day at\u00a054 decibels. \u00a0Previously government argued it was\u00a057 decibels. Some people get annoyed at even lower levels.<\/p>\n<p>The figures are based on a study which the Government commissioned from the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA):\u00a0<em>Survey of Noise Attitudes 2014<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-full wp-image-3958\" src=\"http:\/\/hacan.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/noise-annoyance-chart.jpg\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1632px) 100vw, 1632px\" srcset=\"http:\/\/hacan.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/noise-annoyance-chart.jpg 1632w, http:\/\/hacan.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/noise-annoyance-chart-300x168.jpg 300w, http:\/\/hacan.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/noise-annoyance-chart-768x431.jpg 768w, http:\/\/hacan.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/07\/noise-annoyance-chart-1024x575.jpg 1024w\" alt=\"\" width=\"1632\" height=\"916\" \/><\/p>\n<p>The chart above, taken from the study, compares the results of the Government sponsored ANIS Study with the new study.\u00a09%\u00a0of people are highly annoyed when the average is\u00a054 decibels. \u00a0In geographical terms around Heathrow that goes as far as about Clapham to the east and about 16 miles to the west: about\u00a065,000 people\u00a0in total.\u00a0\u00a0The lower average of 51% extends about as far as Peckham.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The full study:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/publicapps.caa.co.uk\/docs\/33\/CAP%201506%20FEB17.pdf\">http:\/\/publicapps.caa.co.uk\/docs\/33\/CAP%201506%20FEB17.pdf<\/a><\/p>\n<p><strong>And you can read here the HACAN South East summary of the Government&#8217;s new Airspace Strategy:<\/strong>\u00a0\u00a0<strong>\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/hacan.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Airspace-Policy.pdf\">http:\/\/hacan.org.uk\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/10\/Airspace-Policy.pdf<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\">Why do parts of SE London sometimes get Heathrow and City planes on the same day?\u00a0\u00a0<\/span>It is all to do with the wind.\u00a0 When the west wind blows, Heathrow planes land over SE London.\u00a0 When it&#8217;s an east wind, many areas get City planes.\u00a0 But Heathrow planes also land when an east wind is blowing up to about 5 knots.\u00a0 So on these days both Heathrow and City aircraft are landing over SE London.<\/p>\n<h1 style=\"text-align: center;\"><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><strong>Out and About Campaigning<\/strong><\/span><\/h1>\n<p>South East London campaigners joined forces with\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.hacaneast.org.uk\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">HACAN East<\/a>\u00a0and presented a flightpath cake to Tim Johnson, Head of Policy at the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.caa.co.uk\/home\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Civil Aviation Authority<\/a>\u00a0(CAA) on Friday 28 July.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net\/southwarkcans\/pages\/498\/attachments\/original\/1502448135\/Plane_Hell.jpg?1502448135\" alt=\"Plane_Hell.jpg\" width=\"589\" height=\"442\" \/>\u00a0We were joined by Keith Prince AM, current Chair of the GLA Transport Committee. The presentation was timed to ask CAA, in the lead up to their flightpath proposals for City Airport, to take into consideration all people and all areas of London who will be affected by their recommendations.<\/p>\n<p>The CAA entered into the spirit of the event with a picture of the cake accompanying this tweet:<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/d3n8a8pro7vhmx.cloudfront.net\/southwarkcans\/pages\/498\/attachments\/original\/1502448137\/Plane_Hell2.PNG?1502448137\" alt=\"Plane_Hell2.PNG\" width=\"509\" height=\"450\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Mr Prince extended an invitation to Campaigners to meet him at City Hall in September.
