Batting for the Heathrow Residents

Shane Warne and Imran Khan to feature in charity cricket match to benefit HACAN. It will be at Ham Common (Upper Ham Road) on Saturday 14th July, 2 — 6pm. The match is organised by Zac Goldsmith.

Shane Warne, the famed Australian spin-bowler, and Imran Khan, the former Pakistan captain, will appear in a charity cricket match being staged on Ham Common in Richmond on Saturday 14th July with the proceeds going to the campaign group HACAN.

The organiser of the event, Zac Goldsmith, said, “This is a fun event. But the money raised will help fund a very serious cause. HACAN is the most effective group speaking up for residents living under the Heathrow flight paths, and it needs all the help and support it can get. I’m very happy to be able to contribute.”

John Stewart, Chair of HACAN said, “The fact that cricket legends such as Shane Warne and Imran Khan have agreed to turn out will bring to the attention of the wider public the plight of residents under the Heathrow flight paths. The match could not be more timely in view of the Government’s plans for further expansion of Heathrow.”

Notes for Editors:

In the autumn the Department for Transport is expected to consult on proposals to end runway alternation and build a 3rd runway at Heathrow.

Runway alternation is the practice where planes landing over West London switch runways at 3pm in order to give residents of the area a half day’s break from the noise.
