Conservatives to Review Plans for 3rd Runway at Heathrow

“The Brown Government now surrounded by a sea of green”.
The Conservative Party’s aviation proposals, announced today, leave the Labour Government looking increasingly isolated, claimed Heathrow campaign group HACAN.

The proposals, which include plans to tax UK short-haul flights, to cancel new runways and Gatwick and Stansted and to review plans for a third runway at Heathrow, leave Labour as the only political party pressing for a significant expansion of aviation. The Liberal Democrats have already ruled out further runway building in the South East.

HACAN Chair John Stewart said, “The proposals leave the Brown Government surrounded by a sea of green. HACAN, a non-party political organisation, welcomes the fact that the Conservatives realise that the challenges of the 21st century require a very different approach to the policy of aggressive expansion of aviation being pursued by the current Government.”

Stewart added, “The decision to review the plans for a third runway at Heathrow will mean that it is less likely than ever before to be built.”
